1. Hit the target audience
Just like other forms of marketing, knowing your target audience will help you reach out to them effectively. For radio, take the time to think through how and when your audience will tune in. This will help you to target the right time and prepare the right content.
2. Be true to your personality
People should get to know the real you Most of us fear, how people might judge us, if we showed our true selves. And, even though it’s necessary to be yourself, but what it really means is that it’s important to know your strengths and work accordingly, rather than trying to copy someone else’s work style.
Let your enthusiasm shine through, and do not forget to have fun while presenting.
3. Make the Mic your buddy
Make the most of what the mic can do. Imagine that the mic is your friend; now you wouldn’t get too close or breathe out in friend’s face, right. Similarly with the mic, it’s important to note that, the mic can and will pick up every noise you make with your mouth, so learn to use it to bring out your best form.
4. Keep it simple
You can talk about anything on the radio. All you need, is to be able to express your ideas with clarity. Never confuse your audience by being overly wordy or by rambling. Always try to keep your content concise, simple and current.
5. Don’t let your conversation lose its energy.
Keep your voice energetic without getting forceful. Speaking in a monotonous tone becomes very boring for the listeners. If you talk in a boring way then no one will care. Whatever you talk about, make it gripping, make it a story, make it interesting and turn it into something that will grab your listeners and draw them into having a conversation with you.
6. Give a personal touch
Make your listeners feel special. Nobody is interested in talking to a stranger. So, one must be warm and friendly to every listener. Speak in the same way, that you would talk with your friends or relatives.
Create a Bond!
7. Speak freely - (language is not a barrier)
An RJ should be culturally active and speak freely. He / She should know his/her city well, the culture and be aware of main events taking place. You should know the language or further some dialects of other languages, to add in a punch whenever necessary.
But, don’t stress over a particular language, Make your own style and speak !
